Morse Bros. completed work on the Delta Highway
Overlay project the morning of July 29, 2006.
The project is now considered substantially
complete, with only minor Punch List work items
remaining.
The project was completed ahead of the specified
completion date of July 31. Preliminary cost
accounting numbers indicate the total project
costs will be approximately 10 percent under
the bid amount.

No lane closures, including on and off
ramps, shall occur between 6:00 a.m. and 7:00 p.m. This
means the construction work will occur during nighttime
only and all lanes will be open by 6:00 a.m. Ramp work
has been split up into nine separate work zones along
the project.

Why is Lane
County working on Delta Highway?
The Delta Highway Overlay is a high profile construction
project that will provide a new driving surface along
the entire length of Delta Highway in both directions
from I-105 to Beltline Road. The last major preservation
effort on Delta Highway occurred in 1990 with an overlay
of the southbound lanes. Recent traffic counts indicate
over 20,000 vehicles a day use Delta Highway. If Lane
County waits any longer to improve the condition of Delta
Highway, pavement condition will worsen and project costs
will rise.
Project Timeline
Construction is expected to start the beginning
of May 1, 2006 and last through the July 31, 2006.
Working at Night? Will
it be Noisy?
The project requires the use of a roto-milling
machine to grind off specific portions of the road surface,
and then inlay the grinded portion with new asphalt. Other
typical construction noise includes back-up horns from
trucks as they maneuver their loads. This is often
a noisy process.
Please be patient. Lane County Public Works understands
the frustration this may cause, but there is just no
other way to accomplish this project in the time allotted
and with the desire to minimize impacts during peak traffic
hours.
Project Benefits
Preservation of the driving surface on Delta Highway,
a major arterial in the metro area.
Project Funding
Partially funded by Metropolitan Planning Organization
Surface Transportation Program (STP) funds in the amount
of $632,500 with the remaining cost to come from the
Lane County Public Works Pavement Fund. The awarded bid
price is $1,445,686.
