The Work Schedule
The anticipated schedule calls for the project contractor
to construct the improvements in two phases. The first
phase will result in a complete closure of the length
of the path. The second phase will result in the closure
of the northern half of the path, allowing Lindley Lane
to be used as an alternate route between Alton Baker
Park and Garden Way. Resurfacing of the path is expected
to occur from early August to mid-September. Closure
of the path can be expected for the duration of the resurfacing
work. The work is scheduled to be complete by late September.
The project schedule depends on weather and a number of
other factors. Please check with this website or the other
resources mentioned, for the latest information on schedule
and traffic control.
Why Is Eugene Public Works Resurfacing the North Bank
Path?
The Garden Way Path has deteriorated due to tree root upheaval
and longitudinal cracking, causing unsafe traveling conditions
and potential tripping hazards. This project proposes to
overlay the existing path with a portland cement concrete
surface. This work will preserve the existing infrastructure
and extend its useful life by more than 20 years.
How Is The Project Being Funded?
The Garden Way Path reconstruction is being funded primarily
with Federal Surface Transportation (Urban) funds with
City Transportation SDC funds used for local match.
For more information about transportation planning and
funding, see the Lane Council
of Governments website.
Access And Alternate Routes
While sections of the path are under construction, the
path will be closed in the work zones. Closure of the
path is necessary for safety reasons and to complete
the project as quickly as possible.
Path users are encouraged to avoid the area by using Martin
Luther King, Jr. Blvd throughout the project. During the
second stage of the project, path users may use Lindley
Lane as an alternate route between Garden Way and Alton
Baker Park. In using the Lindley Lane alternate route,
please remain alert to directions from flaggers and the
presence of construction equipment.
Noise, Dust And Other Construction-Related Inconveniences
In addition to traffic impacts, projects of this sort are
sometimes noisy, dusty, and can include other construction-related
inconveniences. The staff at the Eugene Public Works
Department will work individually with residents and
businesses in the construction area to anticipate and
mitigate as much as possible these inconveniences.
