Overview
This bridge, located on Goodpasture Road at Mile Post 25.63 off Hyw. 126, was constructed in 1938, and has undergone numerous repairs and rehabilitation projects over its service life. The most recent major repairs were completed in the early 1990s. Recent inspections of this bridge conducted in December, 2009 and January, 2010 noted decay in the lower truss chords and floor beams and resulted in the bridge being given a sufficiency rating of 35.2 (functionally obsolete) out of a possible 100 points.
 Based on the results of the inspections, the County's engineering consultant has recommended a revised load limit for this bridge of 15 tons, pending completion of a formal load rating to be submitted to Oregon Department of Transportation (ODOT). The Lane County Director of Public Works ordered that the bridge be posted with this revised load limit on December 24, 2009, and that action was confirmed by the Board of County Commissioners on January 6, 2010.
At the meeting of the Board, County staff was given direction to investigate the options for repair or replacement of this important transportation link and to investigate potential detour routes that may be available to serve the residents in the event of an emergency or should the load limit of the Bridge be required to be further reduced.
Lane County Public Works has retained OBEC Consulting Engineers to assist county staff in preparing a report to the Board of County Commissioners in late April or early May, 2010.
Public Involvement
A Community Meeting was held at the Vida McKenzie Community Center on January 30, 2010. The meeting was hosted by Commissioners Stewart and Handy and was well-attended by residents of Goodpasture Road and other interested parties. The purpose of the meeting was to inform residents regarding the reasons for the reduced load limit on the bridge, the steps being taking towards ultimate repair or replacement of the bridge and some general time lines for completion.
Additional meetings will be held both in the McKenzie River area and with the Board of County Commissioners as more information becomes available.
