Week of August 2 - 6, 2010
The new ramp from westbound Beltline to northbound I-5 was opened to traffic on July 2. The contractor is building the walls that contain the I-5 northbound to Beltline eastbound ramp. They are also building the embankment for the new ramp day and night. Watch for trucks entering and leaving the work areas from various points on the Highway ramps The temporary traffic signal at the Randy Papé Beltline and Gateway Street intersection will become active this week. There will be nighttime lane closures on Beltline Highway as the contractor installs a storm drain system. Work continues on the sound wall along the west side of I-5. Please watch for trucks crossing the bike paths in this area. Utilities will continue moving their facilities that are in conflict with the planned improvements. There may be lane closures on Beltline Highway and Gateway Street day and night as the work progresses. Watch for flagging operations and construction vehicles entering and leaving the work area.

The Work Schedule
Construction is expected to begin in spring of 2010 and conclude in late summer 2011.
Construction Overview
- Add a new northbound I-5 off-ramp to eastbound Beltline
- Construct a new northbound I-5 on-ramp from westbound Beltline
- Widen Beltline between I-5 and Hutton Street
- Widen Gateway Street between Kruse Way and International Way
- Construct a new sound wall on the west side of I-5 between Harlow Rd. and Berkshire St.
Project Purpose
To improve safety and operation of the I-5/Beltline interchange and the adjacent intersection of Beltline and Gateway Street.
This is another step toward completion of improvements of I-5/Beltline and a joint effort between ODOT and the City of Springfield to widen and improve Gateway Street.

Springfield: Surface Transportation Projects-Urban (STP-U) Federal Funds, Local Funds
Access and Alternate Routes
During construction, there will be brief, temporary closures of the I-5 northbound off-ramp to eastbound Beltline and the westbound Beltline on-ramp to I-5 northbound. Detours will be in effect. There will also be lane restrictions on Beltline
During construction on Gateway, there will be nighttime lane restrictions, lane shifts, temporary traffic signals and access detours.
