Why is ODOT improving vertical clearance along Interstate 5?
This project will raise the elevation of eleven bridges over I-5 to provide a minimum clearance of 16 feet 8 inches over the freeway.  Increased clearance will eliminate the need to re-route the majority of oversized freight loads from I-5 onto local roads.  The bridges are located on a 60-mile stretch of I-5 (mileposts 182.06 to 242.13) in Marion, Linn and Lane counties.

  • Talbot Road (MP 242.13),
  • Denver-Conner Road (MP 239.67),
  • Grand Prairie Road (MP 231.67),
  • Seven Mile Lane (MP 230.12),
  • Coleman Road (MP 203.44),
  • Wilkins Road (MP 201.28),
  • Reed Service Road (MP 198.39),
  • Egge Road (MP 197.70),
  • I-105 westbound (MP 194.04),
  • MLK Jr./Centennial Blvd.(MP 193.49),
  • Market Road (MP 182.06)

The Work Schedule
Construction will begin on bridges in the north and continue south, but not necessarily in exact order of location; work will overlap on some bridges.  To minimize hazards to motorists and construction crews we will need some full and partial closures of overpass crossroads. The temporary closures will last up to ten days and we will provide detours during full closures.  We will need intermittent single lane closures with flaggers on overpass crossroads. We may also need to close single lanes on I-5 during night work.

How Is The Project Being Funded?
ODOT financed the $10.36 million dollar project with federal transportation funds.

Access And Alternate Routes
The anticipated schedule calls for the project contractor to begin work on Centennial/MLK Jr. Blvd. in June and on I-105 in August. There will be a need for a 7-10 day closure of each highway.  The detours will be announced prior to the closures. A two month-long bicycle/pedestrian path closure will begin in June.
