What is the North Game Farm Project?
The North Game Farm Road project starts approximately 300 feet south of the Intersection with Old Coburg Road and extends under the I-5 Bridge to connect to the City of Springfield. The project consists of the following features:

  • Widen the pavement to allow for a 6-foot wide bicycle lane on each side of the roadway and extend the center turn lane;
  • Construct a pavement overlay along the length of the project;
  • Construct concrete walks on both sides of the road;
  • Construct grassy swales between the roadway and walks; and
  • Install additional illumination along this length of roadway.

These improvements will match existing features at both ends of the project and will accommodate future improvements to the intersection of Old Coburg Road and North Game Farm Road scheduled for 2009.

The Work Schedule
The anticipated schedule calls for the project contractor to close North Game Farm Road to north-bound traffic while they widen the northeast side of the roadway as the existing pavement width does not allow for two-way traffic.  For the remaining work both directions will be open to two-way traffic, although drivers should expect delays.

The roadway work is scheduled to be complete by mid-October with the lighting work to be complete by mid-November.

The project schedule depends on weather and a number of other factors. Please check with this website or the other resources mentioned, for the latest information on schedule and traffic control.

Why Is Eugene Public Works Working on this Roadway?
North Game Farm Road is a minor arterial and overlaps the jurisdictions of Eugene, Springfield and Lane County.  Lane County completed improvements to the roadway north of the current project in 2005 and the Springfield end is fully improved to City standards.  This work will transition between both sections while matching on both ends.  Also, the overlay is designed to extend the life of the pavement for an additional 20 years.  This project also provides a safe, illuminated connection for pedestrians and bicyclists from Coburg Road to Crescent Avenue into the City of Springfield at Gateway with future plans to connect Chad Drive into this pedestrian and bicycling network.

How Is The Project Being Funded?
The North Game Farm Road project is being funded with Federal Surface Transportation Funds, City System Development Charge Fees and future Assessments.

For more information about transportation planning and funding, see the Lane Council of Governments website.

Noise, Dust And Other Construction-Related Inconveniences
In addition to traffic impacts, projects of this sort are sometimes noisy, dusty, and can include other construction-related inconveniences.  The staff at the Eugene Public Works Department will work individually with residents and businesses in the construction area to anticipate and mitigate as much as possible these inconveniences.
