The Work Schedule
The anticipated schedule calls for the project contractor
to construct a temporary path detour to allow use of the
Greenway Bike Bridge during the reconstruction of the path
at the bridge. Resurfacing of the path is expected to occur
from mid-May to the end of June. Closure of the path can
be expected for the duration of the resurfacing work. Short-term
closures of the path may be expected before and after the
resurfacing work due to tree trimming, railing installation
and seeding along the path. The work is scheduled to be
complete by early July.
The project schedule depends on weather and a number of
other factors. Please check with this website or the other
resources mentioned, for the latest information on schedule
and traffic control.
Why Is Eugene Public Works Resurfacing the North Bank
Path?
The North Bank Path has deteriorated due to tree root upheaval
and longitudinal cracking, causing unsafe traveling conditions
and potential tripping hazards. This project proposes to
overlay the existing path with a portland cement concrete
surface. This work will preserve the existing infrastructure
and extend its useful life by more than 20 years.
How Is The Project Being Funded?
The North Bank Path reconstruction is being funded primarily
with Federal Surface Transportation (Urban) funds with
City Transportation SDC funds used for local match.
For more information about transportation planning and
funding, see the Lane Council of Governments website.
Access And Alternate Route
While sections of the path are under construction, the
path will be closed in the work zones. Closure of the
path is necessary for safety reasons and to complete
the project as quickly as possible.
Path users will be detoured onto path on the south side
of the Willamette River at the Ferry Street Bridge and
the Greenway Bike Bridge. (See map depicting detour route.)
Noise, Dust And Other Construction-Related Inconveniences
In addition to traffic impacts, projects of this sort are
sometimes noisy, dusty, and can include other construction-related
inconveniences. The staff at the Eugene Public Works
Department will work individually with residents and
businesses in the construction area to anticipate and
mitigate as much as possible these inconveniences.
