The Work Schedule
The anticipated schedule calls for the project contractor to close 5th Street from Main Street to B Street until August 22.  The portion of the project from B Street to G Street will begin approximately August 21st and will be under partial closures.  The entire project is scheduled to be completed mid-September.  The schedule is subject to change.

Why Is Springfield Public Works Overlaying 5th Street?
The City of Springfield Is responsible for maintaining our community's streets.  One of the projects on the list for this construction season is an overlay of 5th Street from Main Street to G Street.  The portion of 5th Street between Main Street and B Street is receiving a partial reconstruction due to the crowing of the roadway surface.  From B Street to G Street, 5th Street is receiving an overlay to prolong the life of the roadway surface.

In addition, improvements are being made to the intersection of 5th Street and A Street to increase handicap accessibility and improve lighting.

How Is The Project Being Funded?
This project is being funded through City of Springfield funds.

Access And Alternate Routes
Through traffic will not be allowed on 5th Street from Main Street to B Street until August 23.  5th Street from B Street to G Street will be under partial closures.  Please watch for flaggers.  Please use alternate routes while in the area.

The bus stop on 5th Street, in front of City Hall has been temporarily relocated.  The southbound bus stop will be temporarily located on B Street between 5th Street and 6th Street.  The northbound bus stop will be temporarily located on 4th Street between C Street and D Street.  The stop will resume its regular location at the completion of the project.

Noise, Dust And Other Construction-Related Inconveniences
In addition to traffic impacts, projects of this sort are sometimes noisy, dusty, and can include other construction-related inconveniences. The staff at the Springfield Public Works Department will work individually with residents in the construction area to anticipate and mitigate as much as possible these inconveniences.
